The Precious Treasure #108

2 Corinthians 4:1 And so, since God in his mercy has given us this wonderful ministry we never give up.
4:7 But this precious treasure—this light and power that now shine within us— is held in perishable containers, that is, in our weak bodies. So everyone can see that our glorious power is from God and is not our own.
4:14 We know that the same God who raised our Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus and present us to himself along with you.
4:15 All
these things are for your benefit. And as God’s grace brings more and more people to Christ, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory.
4:16 That is why
we never give up. Though our bodies are dying our spirits are being renewed ever day. (NLT)

The ministry of the New Covenant is a ministry of reflecting the light of the glory of God into a world of people who need hope, encouragement and life. God receives glory as His light is reflected by those who believe in Jesus.

Because this ministry is of God and for His glory we never give up in proclaiming the Good News of salvation by grace through faith. The struggle we have is that the gospel, the wonderful treasure, is contained and proclaimed from a perishable house, the human body. All of us live in a body that will eventually die and is in that process now. The precious treasure of the gospel is proclaimed from the frailty of the human life and body in order that it becomes obvious to all that it is God at work and not us.

The hope of the believer in Christ is that as God raised Jesus from the dead after his death on the cross, we too will be raised to life through Christ. Our hope is of eternal dimensions. Through the light you reflect of God in your life the more people will come to know Jesus as their own savior. God’s grace will bring more and more people to Christ and in turn God will receive more and more glory.

That truly is why no matter the circumstances we our experiencing, God is at work in your life for His glory. That is why we do not give up. Our bodies may be dying but our Spirits are being renewed day by day. To God be the glory.

Greetings from Starbucks: But in Osage Beach, MO!

I am in MO this week to prepare for my Dad to enter the local nursing home. I am glad to report he is doing quite well and looks forward to living in the home. The plans are to have him in and settled by Friday. Thanks for your prayers. Things have gone extremely well.

This is the first time in almost a year and a half for me to be away from Sandy. Because I still have a liver tube, wound dressings and flushing of the tube it was with a bit of concern I left my very special care-giver. So far so good. I just talk to her on the phone several times during the day.

Continue to pray for Sandy and me as we prepare for teaching and preaching in Louisiana. We will be in Denham Springs September 8-21. I will be preaching at New Covenant Baptist Church on the 12th and Sandy and I will lead a mini-conference on Saturday morning the 18th at Christ Community Church and I will be preaching there on the 19th. Really looking forward to renewing old acquaintances. It is hard to believe it was thirty years ago we moved there.

This last Sunday was our twenty second anniversary at Church on Mill. That also seems hard to believe. Sandy and I are still on staff as Missionaries at Large. The Church recently made me a new business card which reads "Greeter." I really like greeting people and meeting new people. The best part: I DON'T HAVE TO GO TO MEETINGS.

I pray for you today. It is my prayer you will come to know God a little more, love Him deeper, and serve Him with the gifts He has given you. To Him be the glory. ~ DGW
