Under Pressure #15

Romans 5:3
3 And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; (NAS)

Romans 5:3 We can rejoice too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us—they help us to learn endurance. NLT

Romans 5:3 Get all excited about difficulties you face in life, they will change you forever by giving you fortitude. (my paraphrase)

No matter how you interpret it the Bible gives us a clue for getting through the difficulties of life. You undoubtedly have had those trials or tribulations or difficulties. The Greek word, thlipsis, means pressure or stress. Surely you can relate to stress. God’s solution is rejoice, show and express joy. The only way you could possibly do that is the presence of the grace of God and His Holy Spirit. It is like reading the last chapter of the book and realizing that it all turns out good in the end. So it is with your life. There will be stress but it has a purpose.

God wants you to be an over-comer, victorious and bring glory to Him. The way that happens is the stress and trials in your life produce fortitude. William Barclay says that fortitude is more than endurance or patience. Fortitude, the translation of the Greek word, hupomone, “means the spirit which does not passively endure but which actively overcomes the trials and tribulations of life.” You may be experiencing tribulations, trials, or stress today. Let me remind you that God is in charge and He is providing you with fortitude for whatever may come your way.

I hope you find purpose for your life today as you grow in Christ. May God bless you as your spiritual life prospers in Jesus.
